All Our Posters and Maps Are Made in the USAThe detailed manuscript map shows the area around "Ensenada de Mayanabo" (now called Bahia de Nuevitas), on the north central coast of Cuba. It was most likely made in the late 1820s by a surveyor familiar with the area and was made for administrative use. It offers a tremendously detailed look at the bay, including remarkably detailed soundings and a fine depiction of the interior and its topography. Indeed, it is one of the most detailed maps of the area extant.A number of towns, capes, and anchorages are shown, along with the Camino Real and lesser roads. The Bahia de Nuevitas would quickly become one of Cuba's most important trading points. Today, Nuevitas is a major shipping port for Cuban sugar and agricultural products. Additionally, the city supports light industry and is a highway and railroad terminus. This map shows the town just as it was becoming a lynch-pin for commerce, industry, and trade in the early nineteenth century. Settlement on the peninsula, however, has a much longer history. This map comes with a white border around the image --------------------------- -How are the prints shipped?
