Porphyritic rock is an igneous rock characterized by a distinct texture of large, visible crystals (phenocrysts ) embedded within a fine-grained or glassy matrix (groundmass ). Originating 150–450 km deep, it is transported to the surface via high-speed, explosive eruptions.
